2024 Sports Legendary Awardees

As the clock ticks down to the 2024 Sports Legendary Awards, organized by the renowned Celebrity Sports Magazine, presided over by its President, Hon. Solomon Omonokhua, preparations are in full swing to honor a mix of legendary sports administrators in Nigeria.


A statement from Hon. Solomon Omonokhua’s office revealed that the stage is set to recognize and celebrate individuals who have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s sports history.

“In a prestigious event celebrating the contributions of leaders in sports development and philanthropy across Nigeria, several prominent figures will be honored with awards recognizing their outstanding support and contributions to the growth of sports in 2024,” the statement added.

Among the notable awardees, Senator Dr. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), will receive the award for ‘Most, Supportive Youth & Sports Empowerment Politician in Nigeria for 2024’, in recognition of his commitment to youth empowerment through sports.

His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, Executive Governor of Taraba State, will be named ‘Outstanding Sports Governor of the Year 2024’ for his unwavering support for sports development in Taraba State, promoting youth engagement and grassroots sports initiatives.

His Excellency Nyesom Wike, CON, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will be recognized as the ‘Most Supportive Sports Development Politician of the Year 2024’. This award underscores his significant contributions to sports infrastructure and promotion in the FCT.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, OON, SAN, will receive the award for ‘Most Iconic Sports & Educational Promoter Minister in Nigeria for 2024’, in recognition of his efforts to merge education and sports as complementary tools for national development.

Senator Adaramodu Adeyemi, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, will be honored as the ‘Most Valuable Sports Senator in Nigeria for 2024’ for his dedication to promoting sports and youth empowerment through legislative action.

Hon. Wole Oke, representing Obokon/Oriade Constituency in the House of Representatives, will be recognized as ‘Most Outstanding Sports Philanthropist Legislator of the Year 2024’ for his remarkable contributions to sports development and support for grassroots initiatives.


Founder of Ikon Allah Football Academy, Mr. Ayi Mohamed, will be awarded ‘Most Valuable Football Scout’s Agent in Northern Nigeria for 2024’, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to discovering and developing football talents in the region.

His Majesty, Da (Dr.) Jacob Gyang Buba, CFR, Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, will be recognized as the ‘Most Valuable Sports Philanthropist Traditional ruler in Nigeria for 2024’ for his extensive support of sports in Plateau State and beyond.

Engr. Ahmed Musa Kida, President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, will receive the award for ‘Africa’s Best Performing Basketball President of the Year 2024’, acknowledging his exceptional leadership in promoting basketball and leading Nigeria to new heights in the sport on the continent.

The statement says, Shehu Dikko, former Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), will be honored as ‘Most Outstanding Sports Personality in West Africa for 2024’ for his leadership and innovations in football administration, which have left a lasting impact on West Africa’s sporting landscape.

“Nigeria’s professional footballer, Shehu Abdullahi, will be named ‘Most Charitable Footballer in Northern Nigeria for 2024’ for his philanthropic efforts, particularly his support for underprivileged communities and young footballers,” the statement concluded.
