First Bank of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development in Nigeria by sponsoring a golf tournament that has drawn at least 150 amateur golfers from across the country to Kaduna State. The event is set to take place at the Kaduna Golf Club, with the official tee-off scheduled for November 30, 2024.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the Executive Director of First Bank, Idris Ado Ibrahim, representing the Managing Director, expressed the bank’s enthusiasm for sponsoring the event. He highlighted that the initiative aligns with First Bank’s broader efforts to promote sporting excellence through its *First @ Sport* initiative.
“First Bank has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to developing sporting talents through our *First @ Sport* initiative. This includes our legacy sponsorship of various tournaments. Our support is not limited to golf—we also sponsor tennis, football, basketball, and other sports.
“Golf is an inspirational sport that transcends age, gender, culture, language, and beliefs. It fosters relationships, making the golf course an ideal place for networking. By sponsoring this tournament, we aim to provide a platform for golfers to showcase their talents, foster opportunities, and build on the century-long legacy of this club,” he said.
Mr. Ibrahim added that the tournament exemplifies inclusivity, bringing together male and female golfers alongside traditional rulers, captains of industry, senior stakeholders, corporate organizations, and individuals from both private and public sectors.
The Kaduna Golf Club Captain, Mr. Ken Nwankwo, also assured that all preparations had been finalized to ensure a successful and memorable event. He outlined the categories available for competition, including the Men’s 0–14 category, Men’s 15–28 category, Veteran Men, Veteran Ladies, Ladies, and Super Veteran Men.
Auxiliary prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin will be awarded to both men and women participants.
“This year’s event promises to be an exciting showcase of talent and an opportunity to strengthen relationships within the golfing community and beyond,” Mr. Okonkwo said.
The First Bank Golf Tournament is expected to further solidify the bank’s position as a leader in sports development while inspiring future collaborations to promote golf and other sporting activities across Nigeria.
