The Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussain, today flagged off the polio immunization campaign at Unguwan Sanusi Ward, urging parents to ensure their children are vaccinated. The campaign aims to eradicate polio and protect children from preventable diseases.
Hon. Hussain assured parents of the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, stating that if it posed any harm, he would not endorse its use. He stressed the importance of community cooperation in supporting the immunization exercise and solicited the collaboration of traditional institutions to encourage participation. He also urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent outbreaks of diseases, including the recent cholera outbreak.
The District Head of Tudun Wada, Alhaji Tahir Mahmud, Sarkin Rúwan Zazzau, lent his voice to the campaign, appealing to parents to cooperate with health officials. “We are here to launch this exercise because some parents in this Unguwan Sanusi community have historically refused to allow their children to receive polio immunization,” he said.
Alhaji Mahmud commended the local government for its efforts to protect children from preventable diseases and reiterated the critical role of traditional leaders in fostering community trust. “As custodians of our communities, we have a duty to guide our people towards making the right choices for the health and well-being of their families,” he added.
The Sarkin Rúwan Zazzau called on parents to prioritize their children’s health and expressed hope that this campaign would mark the beginning of a healthier and safer future for the community. He urged residents to embrace both immunization and proper sanitation to combat diseases effectively.
The flag-off event reflects Kaduna South Local Government’s commitment to eradicating polio and enhancing public health through grassroots engagement.
